Iran Election Protests
While CNN stays silent, social media and foreign news source are showing massive protests in Iran over the results of their recent presidential election. In this video clip, the BBC reports from the streets of Tehran on the protests. A clip from the AP at the end of the video also has the Canadian government discussing voting irregularities and news that citizens were bullied into voting.
For those unaware, the former prime minister of Iran, Mir Hussein Moussavi, declared himself the winner of the elections by a huge margin. Polls leading up to the election showed Moussavi in the lead by a fair amount. Results from the election show a tally of 24,527,516 to the incumbent president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and 13,216,411 to Moussavi.
After the election, some news source were blocked or filtered within Iran, for instance the BBC websites were completely shut down within Iran’s borders.
